Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens (4.00 miles - Multi-Terrain)

We have chosen this route for the pretty Spring flowers that should be appearing soon in some of the park's borders.  However, with the recent poor weather it may be a while before many of them push their way though.  However, this is a pleasant route to run along at any time of the year and can be surprisingly peaceful considering its location and the number of visitors.  The run follows the perimeter of both Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens and passes many interesting features, including historical statues and of course Kensington Palace itself.  Most of the paths are nice and wide which makes for easy running.

Hyde Park was used as a Royal hunting ground by Henry V111 from 1536 and it remained private until James I allowed limited acccess. However it wasn't until 1637 that the park was opened completely to the general public. Today, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are popular tourist destinations and there are many sports and leisure facilities. You will also find the Diana,Princess of Wales fountain on the south side of the Serpentine and The Albert Memorial is worth a visit just within Kensington Gardens on the South.
