Osmington White Horse (4.66 miles - Multi-Terrain)

Spectacular views over Weymouth Bay
Spectacular views over Weymouth Bay

We hope that July will bring some lovely summer weather in which to enjoy the spectacular views from this fairly challenging run.  The route circles the Osmington White Horse which is cut into Osmington Hill opposite Weymouth Bay.  There is one fairly hard climb but the views over the bay and the Isle of Portland are well worth the effort.  Afterwards you can look forward to some well earned refreshment in the charms of The Springhead public house, located at the start.

The White horse and rider was cut in 1808 to commemorate the royal visits to the area and the prosperity they brought. Mr Wood the book seller directed the construction at the expense and request of John Ranier brother of Admiral Nelson. The horse is looked after by the landowner and English Heritage.
