The Timberhonger 10k run has become an increasingly popular event in the Bromsgrove sporting calendar and after a two-year absence due to Covid, it’s back. And this year could be bigger and better than before with the introduction of a new 5k run. Timberhonger 2022 will be on the evening of Saturday 16th July, part of the Bromsgrove Carnival Weekend which promises big crowds for the runners as they come through the finish line. The Carnival Gala in the park with its stalls and music helps make for a family friendly atmosphere which the runners enjoy. The route of the race is now infamous for its hills which race organisers enthusiastically remind us of. Race Director Mark Graham explains “When we first set up the race we described the route as ‘undulating’ which was somewhat of an understatement and we soon realised that we needed to embrace the hills and make them part of the character of the race. The new 5k will be no different with three hills in three miles. We hope people like it.” As well as the new 5k event, there is also a Children’s Challenge fun run held within the safe confines of Sanders Park with all runners receiving a special newly designed Timberhonger medal for finishing the 1.5k run (800m for under 8s). 2022 will be the 18th running of the Timberhonger 10k, so called as most of the route is on the picturesque Timberhonger Lane. All profits from the race are donated to local charities with this year’s recipients being Bromsgrove Scouts, homeless charity The Basement Project, and Sense who help people with complex disabilities. Over the years the event has raised over £60,000 for good causes and organisers hope to add to this total again this year. The run is supported by Kingfisher Harriers running club.
