The Smuggler's Way’s route is across Cornwall visiting places famously associated with Smugglers such as Bodmin Moor, Jamaica Inn, Dobwalls, Herodsfoot and Sowden's Bridge. It is essentially a coast to coast route which begins near Boscastle on the North coast of the county and which ends in the harbour town of Looe on the south Cornish coast.
The route visits renowned peaks of Bodmin such as Rough Tor and Brown Willy, before dropping into the West Looe Valley to follow the river to the south coast port.
The Smugglers' Way came to prominence thanks to the sterling work of Frank Squibb who documented his experiences of the route.
Micro Event:
The event uses the Geo Tracks GPS tracker to show the positions of participants on a live view tracking map. Participants start at different times but can re-play their GPS trace against others starting from a zeroed time, in effect, virtually racing each other.
This is self navigation, self supported ultra run. Participants are to use the issued GPS tracker and the Geo Tracks app alongside their own electronic navigation device to complete the route. A GPS watch with the GPX route loaded into it is highly recommend. Participants will need a support crew to drop them off at the start, assist on route and collect them at the finish. Please make sure you read the ‘About micro events’ page before signing up.
