The first Sunderland city 10km was held in 2011 with just over 1500 taking part. 10 years later the Sunderland City Runs will welcome 5000 participants to the city streets in a celebration of running across a range of distances. You can choose the 10th anniversary 10k,  the stunning Half-Marathon, the Northern Spire 5k or the Big 3k. There is something for everyone. Come and join in one of the norths largest running events that races through the city and along the sea front, with two of its famous bridges providing a stunning backdrop to all 4 distances. No matter if you’re a first-timer or an experienced runner, the course and atmosphere are conducive to fast times as well as a lot of fun. See you on the start line!

Active Sunderland have challenged the city to STEP UP through to the summer of 2020, walking and running to encourage a more active lifestyle for us all. The Sunderland City Runs will be the climax of the campaign and we are delighted that so many will be really helping to make Sunderland a city that runs. Millions of steps forward!
