First run in 2007 (as the Co-operative Balfron 10k), this event has proved extremely popular with runners of all abilities. The officially measured course, chip-timing, winners prizes and professional organisation appeal to the most serious runners, whilst the friendly atmosphere, traffic-free route and excellent goody bags including commemorative medal and T-shirt make it a great race for the more casual runner and even first-time 10k-er. This is a Scottish Athletics permit event run under UK Athletics rules. Funds raised will be donated to Balfron Schools and local charities.
In addition to the Balfron 10K there are local school races in the area on the day, including the eagerly contested Balfron 4K, a road race open to Balfron High School pupils. Balfron Primary School and nursery also have a programme of races for the morning, making use of the playing fields behind the school campus.
We have received excellent reviews from runners and press alike, and have been voted the top 10k in Scotland, 2009, by readers of Runners World Magazine.- http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/event-editorial/readers-top-50-races-2009-50-plus-votes/4825.html
