This is a tough off-road event, not for the faint hearted or inexperienced runner!
This popular, well established moorland race, now in its 32nd year, starts below Haytor Rock and follows a hilly, single lap route before returning once again to Haytor Rock with a fast downhill scamper to the finish opposite the middle car park at Haytor. The course is approximately 6 miles and is challenging, with several steep ascents and descents and is generally run across rugged, open moorland, apart from two sections through woodland; firstly below Hound Tor and secondly below Haytor and includes a stream crossing.
The course is completely off-road. The route passes through the land of two landowners who have kindly given permission for the race to take place. Please adhere to the Country Code and note that dogs will not be allowed to accompany runners, nor likewise will any following cyclists. Drinks will be available at Hound Tor (approx. 4 miles) and at the finish.
Race HQ is at the Coach Park, located at the far end of the lower car park. There will be toilets but no showers or changing. We will have a wide selection of goodies, including our famous Trotters cakes. We will also have a BBQ on the go. We hope you will be able to stay and join us in what promises to be a cracking evening.
We’re very pleased to once again offer camping for the Saturday night. Just 0.6 of a mile from our Race HQ is ‘Irish Acres’, a beautiful spot in the shadow of Haytor Rock. At just £10 per tent you won’t find a cheaper place to pitch up! We’ll have a licensed bar on site serving a selection of beers and ciders that you can enjoy around the camp fire until midnight. Then, when the sun rises, we'll cook you some breakfast (at a very reasonable price) to round off a great weekend. Further details will be in the race information leaflet that we send you with your race number.
There is a strict race limit of 350 so it is advisable to enter early. The race has sold out for six of the last seven years. There will be no entries on the day.
Please enclose an A5 SAE envelope with your entry. You will then receive a 4-page colour race magazine along with your race number.
