1500m Swim
A new route will be set for the swim to make this event even more challenging. A 1500m route will go around the historic Derwentwater Island. The use of swim socks, gloves and neoprene hats are all permitted making the swim a comfortable pleasant experience. The routes can be observed from the Festival Village and swimmers will be cheered on as they exit the water to transition. Please note: water temp for this event will be around 12oC and you should prepare yourself accordingly.
36km Cycle
A challenging cycle that takes participants from Crow Park heading north to Great Crosthwaite, then south alongside Fawe Park and Swinside. Participants will then ride through Newlands Valley, which provides impressive scenes of the mountain ranges either side. A tough but rewarding ascent and descent of Newland Hause allows for stunning views of Moss Beck while heading towards Buttermere, and on to an extremely difficult accent to Honnister Pass. Descending to Seatoller the route heads north taking in views of Kings Howe before travelling alongside Derwent Water back to Crow Park.
All participants are responsible for ensuring their bike is safe and road worthy. A helmet must be worn and secured before you will be allowed to take your bike out of the transition area.
The route will be signed and marshaled as appropriate, however it is the responsibility of all participants to make sure they are aware of the route and abide by the highway code at all times when on or near public highways.
10km Trail Run
From Crow Park participants will experience a mix of road track and fell path with stunning views all around from the start. Heading east from transition participants will run through Cockshot Wood before crossing the Borrowdale Road at Bow Barn and taking the route alongside Brockle Beck and Springs Farm. Participants will take on a challenging ascent through Springs Wood to Castlerigg and on to the climb to the top of Walla Crag. From the top of the Crag participants will be able to take in stunning views across Derwent Water to Cat Bells to the west and over the event site at Crow Park to the north.
The route from Walla Crag follows a technical but rewarding descent along Falcon Crag towards Ashness Bridge. Taking the tarmac path down to Borrowdale Road participants will cross to the lakeside path and head north through Great Wood and past Calfclose Bay. The final 2km takes participants through The Ings and along the lakeside back to the finish line in the event village at Crow Park.
All participants are advised to wear trail running shoes for the event to provide you with both comfort and stability during the run. The route will be signed, flagged and marshaled as appropriate, however it is the responsibility of all participants to make sure they are aware of the route and abide by the highway code at all times when on or near public highways.
