FUN RUN TO STRETCH YOUR LEGS
It’s time to get out your running shoes, make your New Year’s resolution to get fit and enter this year’s Knowle Fun Run on Sunday 21 May.
You will need to prepare for a longer run this year. After 33 years the organisers, Knowle and Dorridge Lions, have bowed to pressure from runners and extended the former 5 mile run, giving everyone the choice of running 1 lap 5 km or 2 laps 10 km. Entries opened on New Year Day the www.knowlefunrun.org.uk website for entries to encourage runners to start training early and get their friends and colleagues to join them for the annual 2 lap 5 mile run on traffic-free roads of Knowle.
‘Anyone who has run in recent years will tell you about the great atmosphere of 2000 runners, many in fancy dress, being cheered on by the residents who always line the streets,’ says organiser Lion Bob Thurtle. ‘We hope runners commit early by entering online now and will make a donation or get their run sponsored to help raise funds to support this year’s special nominated charities – Prostate Cancer Uk, Motor Neurone Disease Association, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and local causes.
In addition to the 5 & 10km Fun Run with categories for all ages and team trophies to be won, there will be 4 mini runs, with one for each of school years 1 to 4. This year those in Year 4 can choose if they prefer to run as Juniors in the 5 km fun Run
Already the Lions are busy planning for the day, seeking corporate sponsors and advertisers to cover costs and volunteers to make the event its usual great success. If you can help them please get in touch via 2017@knowlefunrun.org.uk now.
