Thanks all.  I've found if I close my eyes and wear an iPod I could be in Richmond Park ... almost.

LOL at your comment about the trainers at the gym being 'muppets'...
Nobody understands runners like runners do.

I've never actually used this model personally....but have a look at this pdf document, it may have the info you need to find the ideal workout.

I don't know too much about plantar faciitis, but I've heard it's a bit of a 'bugger' of an injury. So good luck with the recovery.

Anybody got any hints on how best to use a Cross Trainer in the gym to replicate running?  I've got plantar faciitis and can't run so have had to join a gym.  High levels slow the heart rate down, low levels get the heart going but legs are going like the clappers!  Can't seem to get the right programme.  It's a Octane Pro 3700 if that means anything to anyone.  And don't ask me to ask the trainers at the gym - they are all muppets and don't understand runners!
