I have also read 'Feet in the Clouds' and agree with Dave its a good read and recommended. It inspired me to try the Historic Grasmere Guides Race a few years ago: only 1.27 Miles long it took me nearly 18 minutes....an incredible experience :). In the same vein there's a cracking photo from the top of the Burnsall race back down to the finish at the village 3/4 of a mile away. Like the Grasmere one the record is about 12 minutes and its hard to believe you could run down in that time let alone up and then down!

Andy - I'm back to running up literally the only hill for miles, but will persevere with the fitness for the way up and grit my teeth for the way back down again!

Dave - I'll check out the book, looks interesting.

Leah, check out 'Feet In The Clouds', by Richard Askwith (ISBN 9781845130824). One of the best sports books ever written.

It's an over-used word, but Joss Naylor is an true legend.

Hi Leah,

Don't let those videos put you off, in fact most of them seem to be having a good time! I've done quite a few fell races over the years and there's no great trick to it. You simply need to be as fit as you can be to get up as fast as possible, and as for getting down again...i guess a bit of practice will help but its mostly about bravery :)

Its great fun and a nice change from chasing times at road races.

Hi all,

So, I /have somehow ended up being entered into the Llanthony Fell Run this summer, mostly because the in-laws jokingly decided to see just how crazy I am, and was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to prepare? I've got 2 months to get from my moderately fit, running-on-the-flat state to being able to tackle the 3.5miles up and down a mountain without embarrassing myself. All suggestions welcome - please help!
