Here I am armed with notebook and 3G dongle in hand in sunny Clacton (well not quite, I'm in  a place called St Oysth), on a cheap Sun deal... I know how to live the high life !!!

Anyway to the point, I smuggled the running gear into the car, you know just in case. I managed to drag the the other half on a reccie for a run under the pretence of 'lets go for walk' ploy.

5.29 miles later to be precise I have found a cracking multi terrain run of one loop that I intend to try out later on this week, say tomorrow.....and probably the next day... and so on.

The missus says I'm mad after I confessed to the 'walk', does anybody else do the holiday/run thing?

P.S. The matress in this cavavan is abismal, they should return it back to the fairground it's like a bed of nails.

My missus also calls me mad, as I ALWAYS take my running kit with me!!!

From the Cornish coast to the French Alps, I will always find a way to smuggle it in, despite having too much "stuff". I find hiding it away in the kids cases works a treat, after the wife has packed them!

I find it's vital to run on holidays as I always over endulge; well it is a holiday!

Apart from burning those excess calories, it is a great way to explore too. Running across Crantock beach (North Cornwall coast) at 8:00 in the moring is breathtaking and highly recomended for those that havent tried it

One problem that I have just thought about.. I am off to the Lake District in the Autumn... my legs are like jelly just thinking about fell running!

Whilst training for my first 10k race this coming sunday, I was on holiday in Poole, Dorset, and determined to keep my training on track I took the gear and managed two 5k runs. The run took me through a local high street much like any other, but once I was at the end, it turned onto a "track" with over hanging branches and semi rural woodland either side. It had rained and drips fell from the over hang cooling me as I ran, it was heaven I felt like I had "graduated" to the next level, so much so that I got up early next morning and did the same run again...knocking 12 mins off! My gear will go with me from now!

God Bless

Adrian

Well it looks like I'm in good company we are all nuts, or is ti them? I don't know my head hurts trying to work it out.....or was it the booze last night.

Anyway, out at the crack of dawn this morning, a little later for me at 06:30 and it was all misty...a bit like wuthering heights and fully expecting a chap on a horse to appear followed by a screeching wench shouting Heathcliff or something like that (cue Best of Kate Bush on the MP3).... instead I got 3 lurchers and a yappy little scottie dog bounding up to me from a distrought owner who could not control them, the lurchers were just midly inquisitive and went away after a brief encounter (another film reference) but I felt like delft flick of the scottie with my foot off the sea defences as it was yapping and getting in the way for a couple of hundred yards.

I decided early on to pump up the run to a steady pace of around 7:50 minute/mile and enjoyed myself so much I purposely overshot the turn back into the camp and carried on to the next entrance which added an extra one and half miles, so in total 6:75 miles all in all for the day.

Down point was that I have two little water blisters one on the bottom of each little toe (4th one along from the big toe) on each foot, probably due to wet socks due to running through grass. Very painful when walking so I purchased these little tube type things from the chemist to slip over each one.

Absolutely agree.  Whether it's a holiday or a working trip, I try to keep up my running schedule.  So I've run in England, Isle of Man, Ireland, Portugal, Cyprus, Rhodes, Egypt, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Zambia!  On holiday my husband even enjoys walking with me to check out my routes in advance!

Hi Guys,

Some great and inspiring stories. We should make a list of all the places run in by grg members...

I always take my kit, why not, its a good chance to explore new places especially abroad where you don't have a car. In Barbados recently and it might not have the best pavements or trails (or any for that matter) but doing 6 miles at 6am in 26 Degrees (comparitively cool!) certainly sets you up for your breakfast and guilt free luchtime rum punch.

However there is something to be said for the treadmill in those temperatures ...or these ones here for that matter.

Andy
