Im making Loch Ness my 2nd last marathon of the year, wondered if any the GRG members were also taking part? Entry is closed now, its on October 3rd, should be a stunning course, cheers, Mark

Hi Mark

I'm doing this - been building up the mileage in the last few weeks and remembering how hard marathon training is!  I see you are doing an ultra - good luck with it.

I'm doing this, struggling with miles though as I have an achillies problem and got bitten a couple of weeks ago and my left foot started resembling an elephants!  Was on antibiotics for just over a week but am off them now :-)  Just hoping that I can pick up my pace over the next couple of weeks.  This is my first marathon as well I must have been nuts to have chosen it...but I'm still looking forward to it.  Louise you are right marathon training is hard!!

That's unlucky about the achillies problem - hope it clears up ok.  Just done my longest run so far on my schedule - 15 miles - took it very slowly and it wasn't too bad!  About to go on a watersports holiday for a week so won't have much time for running so glad I have got this done.  It does sound like a nice scenic marathon so I'm sure it will be all worthwhile!

Hope the Achillies is ok, maybe see you both up North in October :-)

I now have my own injury problem!  I tried to do a 16 mile run and had to pull up because of an extremely painful IT band.  So, have only done a few shorter runs since - resting, stretching and icing - just hope its better in time - very frustrating!

Thanks - I have now been to a physio as it doesn't seem to be clearing up.  I've been told to run for max. 4 miles (before the pain comes on) each time for the next 2 weeks and do stretching exercises and cross training meanwhile.  There's still a chance I may make it but not sure if I'm going to have time to build up to the long runs - time will tell!  Weekend is booked anyway and will make the most of it even if its just supporting!
