I believe I know the answer to this question before even typing this out.  But I am just interested what others have to say on the subject.  First a bit of background.  I am a male of 41 who has always had a constant battle with controling my weight.  Currently 14st 12 lbs and would class myself as heavy musculer build.  Not built for running really at all.  But have enjoyed running for over 26 years now and have used it to try and control my weight and more importantly keep fit.  I try to stick to a GI type diet which I find suits me.  Completed a 10K a few weeks back and ran 53 mins.

For the last couple of years I have used USN Muscle Fuel STS after trialing many different other varients (some of which were horrible).  My main reason for using Muscle Fuel is I work shift work in a Public Service job which is very fast moving at times and I use it as a snack to fill me up between meals and to stop me snacking on biscuits, etc which are always available.

My questions are:  Should I stop using it to lose a few pounds?  What could I use to fill the gap that tastes good, quick to consume and cheaper?  All comments, thoughts & tips appreciated.

GRG keep up the good work on what is an excellent website!!!

Hi Portman, I'm not an expert on nutrition, but from experience I'd say that protein shakes work best if the majority of your exercise comes from gym work rather than running. Having said that, I'm sure it's preferable to snacking on biscuits.

I usually have a small packed of unsalted cashew or pistachio nuts as a snack - low GI and quite convenient. Not especially cheap, but personally I'd advocate going for natural foods as much as possible.
