Hi all,

Just entered my first 10 mile race, New Forest 10. It will be the longest race i have run so far as i normally only do 10k. Its not until July so i have plenty of time to train and i am hope to finish it around the 1hour 40 mins mark, although i have run 8 miles in 72 mins so might just improve on that. If all goes well it will be the New Forest half marathon after that. Anyone got any tips for me to help with training.

Cheers, John

Thanks for the replies. I am keen to enter the New Forest Half Marathon but to be honest im not sure if i have the time to do the training. What do you think the minimum amount of training i will have to do to complete it in a reassonable time say 2 hour mark. I read so many different views on training i really dont know what to believe. I am happy to run 3 times a week and maybe 4 times some weeks but dont fancy being out every day pounding the roads for up to 40 miles a week. At present i normally manage around 12-15 miles per week. What do think?

Hi Toby,

Thanks for that. Will probably take your advise regarding the 2 runs at pace then one long run. Sounds like it might fit my time better. I did 7 miles last night at a pace of 9.05 per mile so not far off my goal and it was the first run after an achillies problem. Think i could improve on that time by a couple of mins. My plan is to run 8 miles next week then a 3 lap course of 10.5 miles, a week later, providing my achillies does'nt play me up again. I ve gone back to standing in a bucket of cold water for 15 mins after a run so fingers crossed.

once again thanks for the help and i will let you know how i get on running my 10.5 miles.

John
