Thanks Helen, I wasn't aiming for such a good result but as you know once you get started in a race you tend to give it 110%.

With regards to next weeks 10k, Sutton Park is hilly and right at the start you have to run up the steepest hill, and then again on the next lap so I am looking at anything around 47 minutes as I have already run the course at tempo speed a couple of weeks ago which was 48:30.

This running thing can be a bit addictive whilst everything is working ok.

Oh by the way I have uploaded todays race from my Garmin and have tidied it up a bit so I shall publish it on the shared routes for anyone who may want to run it in the future.

Now I'm not one usually for impulsive actions especially as next Sunday I am running my second ever race which is the Midland Lung Run in Sutton Park, but the club members asked me on Thursday if I wanted to have a go at the Rosliston race. I thought why not and not knowing anything about it I joined them this morning and travelled over to the location.

I found out it was mainly a trail type 2 lap race of around 5.8 miles with a few ankle deep muddy bits to stain my nice new Asics, good job I had packed my bag to cope with any occasion.

I have only run road since I started running so this was a bit of a challenge, but it was great fun sploshing around the fields and forest. It was also the type of race that did not have the chip timing so initially I had to rely on my Garmin, although when I finished I heard the marshall shout "52" which I assumed was the minutes. I did fiddle about after with my Garmin as I am not completely au fais with it at the moment and it read 40:52, which to be honest I disbelieved at the time, until I got home and plugged it into my laptop which proved correct.

I have just been onto the South Derbyshire website and the time is confirmed as correct and I come in 44th out of 130 finishers, the winner came in at a time of 32:03. As you can imagine I was well pleased with this and it have pushed my age grading to 70.75%, although I wouldn't recommend being impulsive often.

I am on formal wind down this coming week with rest day tomorrow and next Saturday up to my scheduled 10k Lung Run and hopefully my dash round the woods will not affect Sunday.

(Note to myself: If I am going to more of these go and buy them Inov-8 Roclites I've had my eye on for some time It's a pain scrubbing my Asics clean and the missus was not impressed by the state of the washhand basin).
