Hi guys. I'm a Newcastle runner, so if anyone wants some running company let me know. I live in Gosforth but go to Gateshead Harriers twice a week. I can't recommend the club enough for improving my running (been going for about 6 months). There are pleanty of runs of all distances that you can enter as any events are great practice for the race. Also get in some gradual inclines for the GNR!

Rob - parkrun (great idea) is about 3 miles and the GNR as you know is just over 13 miles. You don't say how far you've got to in running terms but if you are suugesting that parkrun is a step up, then here is an idea:

My suggestion would be run regular parkruns and many more slow runs 4,5,6,7,8,9,10miles to build a base. In about May or so, look for a small 10k event and test yourself - you will then know how feasible it is going to be to run the full distance.

If you go to Runners World web site look for a 10k and/or half marathon plan - download for free then you will see what you have in store, training wise.

Good luck and welcome to the world of running
