Hey chaps,

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to map out a long route in the route planner - my computer gets slower and slower the more points I put in, and by the time I'm up to about 14 miles it's taking more than a minute just to add another point in.

Is it just a sign that my laptop is in a bad state? It's running other programmes ok.

Thanks!

Hi both, mine is a bit slow.  Now I'm not a techie and no doubt the GRG guys can explain it better but I think it's down to the number of points you are placing on the maps and possibly tied in with the magnification of the maps and the panning it needs to do. For example I am drawing a marathon route and at one point a scripting error message came up.

So given that I assume when plotting a route the information is temporarily stored and if you do not save it regularly then this file becomes larger and every time you pan then it needs to go back to this file and redraw it all over again, up to a point where it is so large then it could cease to respond.

I don't know a solution apart from saving the map regularly, which can be a bit of a bind as you have to reload the route in again and find the last point, maybe the GRG guys can help on just a save only without having to do this last process.

Thanks chaps. I suspect it's a problem with my home laptop - I've just mapped out an incredibly nasty hilly 23 mile route at work with no problem at all.

There's a clear lesson here - worktime is for planning running, hometime is for doing it!

Hi John mine is usually associated with editing using IE9. It seems to be ok when I snap to roads but sometimes I don't want this function where there is no road overlay. Specifically when the map redraws at a close up zoom the points do take time to regenerate the map and if you zoom right out to see the extent of the map you can actually follow the points around from the start popping up in sequence.

Dependent upon how many points are on the route and how long the route is dependent on how long it takes to regenerate.

Interesting, I use a iMac at home and it is the map loading embedded within the browser page that seems to take ages.  I suspect my issue is not with the GRG site though as any google mapping is a struggle - I wonder if I have a flash player mismatch.  Saying that, the cycle map GRG offers loads immedialtly whereas road and satellite don't.
