Runners High! hmmm! not all the time - but I do feel really pleased with myself after completing a hard session or after a race thats gone to plan - so hopefully you'll get there! I agree with Marge that my highlight is a nice hot bath after a tough race/session! |

High louise, I read through some wight lifting tips once (dont quote me) but it mentions that after a session of muscular work its not a good idea to have a hot bath as it keeps your mussels tence and the best thing to do is have a luke warm bath so your mussels can relax correctly. I cant resist hot baths after cross counrtys anyway...

You are quite right Daniel - not recommended but too enjoyable for me to resist! My excuse, though, is that I find that my core temperature goes right down after a hard race (especially a winter one) and I become quite chilled - and nothing else brings it up again in the same way. I don't know how some athletes can have iced baths afterwards e.g. Paula Radcliffe is famous for these - I think I would die of hypothermia! |

I think I often experience runner's high after completing a run because I feel so great that I've actually managed it! I almost instantly forget all the hard bits of the run and feel a real sense of achievement. I also forget the moments of doubt where I'd thought: 'Shouldn't I be doing something sensible instead - like sitting down in my house?' I'm also really motivated by the numbers - which is why I love GRG - especially when they are encouraging ones! However runner's high was severly dampened today when I arrived home to find that, although I'd survived the run, my watch battery hadn't, so no time, no age-grading...! |

Go for it Martin, in no time you'll be hardcore training and going for the ironman stuff, you won't need to draw the six pack on your stomach with the good lady's make up.

Did you feel the 'burn' Martin? Not in your legs but in your lungs :-) Just done my monthly hill session early this morning (4 x up a 400mtr 1:12 incline) plus a 2 mile jog each way to the hill and back, in preparation for the Aldridge 10k (ooops it's now truncating) this Sunday that seems to have a 130 ft incline from 7.5k all the way to 9.25k, that should sort a few out. Target time 43:50 for AG and PB.

Couldn't do that, the other half would have seized the opportunity and have the locks changed whilst I was out. |

Resist it Martin, go too fast and you'll end up throwing up that green vomit projectile style the same as the poor possessed girl did, trust me it will happen probably behind that old knarled oak and the demons will laugh. |
