But, we have also included other routes which visit lesser known and infrequently visited places which can be just as fascinating. These include Greenham Common, The Meldon viaduct and the atmospheric Airforce memorial overlooking the Runnymede meadows and the Thames.

Our Top 10 Runs To Interesting Places

These are our top 10 runs to interesting places from around the UK. Each one has been selected from the Good Run Guide database and has a detailed route guide with a custom map and directions.

Windsor Great Park - 10.00 miles

This run explores much of Windsor Great park, a Royal Park of approx 14000 acres. You will pass by the impressive Virginia Water Lake, join the Long Walk with views of Windsor Castle, run up to the Copper Horse and return to pass the Obelisk and the British Columbian Totem Pole.

Greenham Common - 8.54 miles

Although not our most scenic route, there is a fascination in coming out from the Berkshire countryside onto the infamous Greenham Common, the site of cruise missile storage throughout the 1980s.

Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens - 4.00 miles

If you want a nice pleasant route in the centre of London where you don't have to fight through the crowds, then this is it. There are nice wide paths throughout which makes for easy running, and although the park can be busy there is plenty of space for all.

Okehampton Granite Way Loop - 5.08 miles

A loop from Okehampton Station using the Granite Way (a well kept cycle path) and back via pleasant footpaths. You will cross the Meldon Viaduct which is quite spectacular considering the trickle of a river flowing underneath.

The Needles and Tennyson Down - 4.65 miles

A bracing run which takes in views of The Needles and the colourful sands of Alum Bay. The finale is the long run up to Tennyson Downs from where you can see much of West Wight and the South Coast of England.

War Of The Worlds Way - 5.62 miles

This is a flat run which starts in Woking near to the 'Tripod' sculpture, goes alongside the Basingstoke Canal and then along footpaths around Horsell Common and past the sandpits where H.G. Wells described the landing of the first of the Martian cylinders.

Bosherston Bumble - 4.32 miles

A short but challenging and entertaining coastal route. On the route you cross a sandy beach, pass the intriguing Bosherston Ponds, shoot down a quiet country lane and meander along the beatiful Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

Brunel's Three Bridges - 10.01 miles

This mostly flat route runs along the Grand Union Canal towpath climbing the Hanwell staircase of locks with the Brunel's Three Bridges Ancient Monument at the top.

Holy Island Circuit - 4.87 miles

A quite stunning and varied circuit of the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. The Circuit leaves the tourists behind after the first mile or so and passes along suprisingly tranquil and picturesque coast paths, visiting a nature reserve, sandy dunes and isolated bays.

Runnymede Memorials - 4.51 miles

A run that takes in the historical Runnymede meadowland and also climbs up the hillside to view the impressive Air Forces Memorial and the Kennedy Memorial which both overlook the Runnymede meadows and the River Thames.
