One of the main objectives of GoodRunGuide is to help runners
to get the most from their running by providing recommendations
for some of the best running routes around the UK.
We want you to be able to run and enjoy our recommended routes
with
confidence, so only include good quality routes; we research
and
run every route we recommend before it is published,
checking
it
against our
Quality Standards and producing accurate
maps
and
guides
with all the information you should need.
QUALITY STANDARDS
FOR RECOMMENDED ROUTES
suitable terrain for running
attractive or interesting scenery
reasonably easy to follow
well described
accurately mapped with good directions
not hazardous
different from other local routes
circular route if possible
Quality First
We believe that the quality of our
recommended
routes is
paramount and more important
than filling our
database
with as many routes as possible. There are two main reasons for this. Firstly, we think that people would prefer not to have
to sift through everyone’s "everyday" routes to find routes that are worth making that extra effort to get to. Secondly, if you only want to
run the most convenient routes you probably don't need our
help for this!

Recommendations from Members and Running Clubs
We also publish Routes recommended by GoodRunGuide Members. While it's not practical or economic for us to come and run all of these ourselves, we do commit to review each one individually against our Quality Standards before it is published. Where we do run a route recommended by a GoodRunGuide Member and we confirm that it meets our Quality Standards, we will endorse it ourselves and produce a custom map, run guide and video fly-through.
Routes recommend by Members are shown with this blue symbol.
Lastly, affiliated UK Running Clubs can publish their training routes on GoodRunGuide. These are not inspected by GoodRunGuide but are recommended by the Clubs themselves.

Our Funding Policy
There is no getting away from it - a good service costs money to run. It's a major undertaking to research, survey and produce bespoke maps and guides for all the routes we recommend, and on top of this we have the costs of developing and administering the site, licensing software and data, and running the servers. However, our vision is to provide the highest quality of information for runners and a genuinely better service than you can find for free, so we believe its worth it to give you - the runner - exactly the information you want. This is why we've taken the decision to charge a small annual subscription.
We've also ruled out funding the service through advertising as we think we can give you a better service this way. Firstly, it means we don't have to clutter up the site with adverts or bombard you with marketing offers from our sponsors; we always have your interests uppermost in our minds and not those of sponsors or advertisers. And secondly, totally free websites tend to be slower, due to the very high levels of people they need to attract to generate advertising revenues. By having a subscription service we believe we can provide quicker response times and therefore a better service.
We've set the subscription as low as possible given our costs as we're keen to provide good value for money. We hope you agree that it is good value given the quality of information available and the costs of buying conventional maps, guides and log books.
Our Geographic Policy
GoodRunGuide is based in the UK and is very much focused on the needs of UK runners only. We think that if we tried to create a service to meet the needs of every runner on the planet we’d be doing so at the expense of creating a less relevant service for UK-based runners.
So, on GoodRunGuide, you won’t have to search the world to find what you want, hear about events in other countries and receive marketing offers from foreign retailers - we aim to give you a service that is as relevant as possible.
Our Activity Policy
GoodRunGuide is a service for runners. While it would be tempting to appeal to a wider audience by forging out into other sports and introducing options to record routes and training for a range of activities, we feel we would end up with a a ‘jack-of-all-trades’ service that would be much less relevant for the runners who we want to focus on.
However, we do recognise that many runners also compete in triathlons and so we plan to develop greater support for this but first and foremost GoodRunGuide is a service for runners.
Our Independence
GoodRunGuide is an independent business managed and operated by a small group of dedicated runners. We are not controlled by a big business so our motive is not to try to sell you energy drinks or trainers, the only thing we hope to try to sell you is a good service!
Our Member Support
We like to think that we offer excellent service and support to our Members. The nature of our service means that we can offer personal support and advice to Members who have queries or problems and we normally reply to emails within a few hours. Whether its a technical query or question about running we will do our very best to help. We're pleased to have lots of excellent feedback from our Members but are always working to improve our service further so welcome feedback of any type.
