Hi Alan

I've just noticed you haven't ticked the box to join in the leagues, so will need to do this to appear on the new table.

Anybody who would like to join in please go to the membership menu, select ‘update my details’ and then tick the ‘join in member leagues’ box. Also, you will have needed to have calculated an age graded percentage for any runs that will be selected for the table (the highest percentage will automatically be taken).

It looks like there will be just over 200 members that have opted into the leagues and have also calculated age graded percentage for training runs, so there will be slightly more than in the race leagues. Hopefully more will opt in/calculate percentages over time.

Hi

The next league to be launched will be an age graded percentage league for training runs (launch date 1st April) , which we hope will give some motivation for those who don't do races (or many races), as suggested by Alan.   This will be named  'Best Run in Training (age graded)'

Good points Alan and I guess it can't do any harm. I've been the one dragging my feet a bit on this one as John has it nearly ready to go but i am the one trying to sift out clearly erroneous entries. I expect we'll put it live in the next couple of weeks.

Farily obvoiusly you get the best age graded when the underfoot conditions are good i.e. road and the course features short ups and long gradual downs....figure that one out for yourselves. A net downhill course would work but is a bit of a cheat!

As a final point we don't want to get anyone killed chasing a good time so stop your watch at roads rather than dice with traffic.

Keep on running. Have fun!

Andy

Hi Alan

Sorry we didn't get back earlier - went away to have a think about it and then got sidetracked on other things!  We've no great problem with this -  its just we're not sure how accurate and useful it will be -  as logged times and route that aren't races are  probably more likely to be less accurately logged e.g. sometimes we find that someone may cycle a route but log it as a run .  On the race leagues we try and keep an eye on this and check on unlikely times but it could be harder to do this with training runs.  We will have a look and see how many people would be joining in and how many erroneous entries there are likely to be.

There is also a slight worry that some runners (especially beginners) could get fixated on leaping up the table and go out and run every training run as fast as they can - which definitely isn't  recommended and can lead to injury.  I know this sounds a bit nanny like! but it is a consideration.

Darren - no, as long as you have logged the run as a race and you have been able to map/GPS  the route (needed to calculate age graded percentage) then this will be picked up.  We also plan to add a facility for members to share their recorded race routes as we can't expect everyone to be able to be able to map/GPS all their races, which can be especially difficult for off-road routes.

I'd be really interested in a league for non-racers too as I don't run many races.

Hi

We are definitely thinking about GRG league tables - great idea - hopefully it won't be too long before we can get this going.  The virtual club is also a great idea, but to get race discounts a club has to be UK athletics affililiated - and unfortunately the club has to register each member at £5 each.  We don't want to increase GRG membership by this, as especially since a lot of our members are already club members and so would be paying twice.  So, at the moment it doesn't seem feasible - but will think about what else we can do to grow the 'club' community.

Sounds Good!  This was the topic I was thinking about writing in about when the forum started...Anyway - why not reach for the stars...how about affiliation to UK Athletics and setting us up as a "virtual club"? - discounts to race meets would encourage more people to enter races and being able to see how we compare with other club members would give us a push on winter nights.... (especially for those of us who through location / work commitments don't have ready access to local clubs).
