I've had problems in the past with the computer telling me it can't find a device.  The problem is intermittent so I assume it's my computer, but I get around it by uploading my runs into the Garmin Training Centre and they can then be downloaded into GRG as a TCX file.  It's a bit long winded but achieves the result.
