OVERVIEW

A circuit of the road around Draycote Water with very simple navigation! Draycote Water is a popular centre for sailing, fishing and birdwatching. The circuit is on tarmac paths for the whole circuit. The route is generally flat but does undulate a little on the far side of the lake.

The reservoir was built in the late 1960's and filled by pumping water from the river Leam. Six dams connect five hills and a ridge to create the water storage area. A marathon and a 35 miles race are held annually on this road circuit.

I live locally and do this circuit just about every weekend. With a good network of paths and bridleways in the area, it can be part of an extended route. It gets very busy on sunny weekends, so get here early to enjoy a superbly peaceful run in safe surroundings.

Sorry about that Simon, call it nearly 5! Steve, who like me runs for Ranelagh Harriers told me it was a good fast tarmac run but forgot to mention the wind, still i enjoyed it and thus upgraded it to a GRG route in the hopes more people will have a go at it.

Steve, I to regularly run circuits of Draycot, a great relatively traffic free venue that can change so much with the weather and seasons. However, I have never bothered to measure the circuit, just always believed Severn Trent Water and their published guidance that it is 5 miles round !!!!! I am going to have to review my running times now !
