OVERVIEW Saltburn Gill is a remarkable, and suprising, orange colour. It was turned this colour almost overnight on 18th May 1999 when water from abandoned Ironstone Mines near the head of the stream, contaminated with Iron Oxide (also called Ochre) broke through from the flooded old workings. |
