OVERVIEW

A slightly undulating scenic run around Virginia Water lake which is located in Windsor Great Park. The lake was dammed and flooded in 1753 and was the largest man-made lake in the British Isles until the creation of the reservoirs. The Valley Gardens on the North side are very attractive especially in the spring and summer.

We have listed this run as one of our lone runner routes - however in bad weather you may feel a bit secluded. Virginia Water Lake is part of the 14000 acres of Windsor Great Park, a Royal Park managed by the Crown Commisssioners.

This Route has been classed as Easy This Route is not in an isolated area where you might feel vulnerable Refreshments at Start Toilets near Start

This route is surprisingly dry at the moment considering how muddy some other places are.

As Christopher has commented, this can get very busy at weekends with dog walkers and familys - but they generally don''t stray further than 10 minutes in either direction from the main entrance. Its really peaceful and you could have it to yourself if you can run on a mid week morning. Running clockwise is, in my opinion, harder than anti-clockwise at it has more short uphill sections. Running anti-clockwise is flat / downhill with one short uphill close to the end.

Very pleasant, suprisingly undulating for a track that follows the edge of a lake. I ran at 8.30am Jan 2nd and it was pretty quiet but I imagine a sunny week end afternoon would be very busy. If you want to save on car parking there is a lay by just opposite the official car park which is 1.50 per hour. Very beautiful area with many other opportunities to run along rivers.
