Since the event first began in 2013, over 3,200 local children have donned their running shoes and collectively raised an incredible £180,000 for their local Hospice!! We think that’s amazing and would love it if your children could join us for this special 5th year celebration.

The 2.62 mile circular route will start from the Bandstand at the top of the Royal Greenwich Park (which is the famous focal point for the Virgin London Marathon). After a lively warm up, the Mini Marathon begins and our Mini Marathoners can run, walk or jog their way around the route. They can even run in fancy dress; we loved spotting the colourful characters last year!

The2.62 mile route is exactly a tenth of a full marathon. Our route follows the footpaths around Royal Greenwich Park which, on the day, will be lined with Hospice marshals who will be cheering the runners on and handing out water along the way.

Once our Mini Marathoners have crossed the finish line they will be presented with a much deserved medal and a special John Payne 5th birthday goody bag full of lovely treats!

On Your Marks…Get Set…

Runners and their families can arrive at the park from 9.15am to drop off their runner numbers and get ready for the Mini Marathon start at 10am.

We will set the runners off in groups according to their age, so the children with the longest legs (the 14 – 16 years old) will go first, then the 11 – 13 year olds, then the 7 – 10 year olds and finally, the last group to go will be all under 7 year olds and other accompanied children. It’s free for adults to run with their children however they must be in the last group to set off.

Show me the money!

We understand that raising sponsorship can be harder work than running 2.62 miles! To make it easier be sure to create a Virgin Money Giving online giving page; it is nice and easy and your fundraising page can be shared instantly with family and friends.

If every child raised around £50 in sponsorship we could raise £70,000 which would bring the total raised in 5 years to £250,000!!!

Because it’s our 5th birthday, every child raising over £50 will automatically be entered into our Mini Marathon prize draw. Prizes this year will be announced over the next few weeks and months so follow our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.

Getting There.
There is plenty ofcar parking available in Royal Greenwich Park however car park fees will apply for the duration of your stay. There is some limited free car parking alongside Charlton Way.

The nearest train stations are Greenwich Park or Maze Hill and the 53 bus stops directly outside the Blackheath Gate entrance to Royal Greenwich Park.

Spending a penny
Royal Greenwich Park now charge for use of their toilets so please bring some loose change with you in case you or your child need to spend a penny (or 30!). The Hospice will be providing six portable toilets on the day.  

Refresh Yourself

Unfortunately the Hospice is not able to provide refreshments on the day however the Pavilion Café will be operating a mobile refreshment unit which will be located by the Mini Marathon start. They will be donating a percentage of the takings to the Hospice after the event.

Get ‘em while you can!

A limited supply of Mini Marathons T-shirts will be available to purchase. We sold out very early last year so get yours early to avoid disappointment! They cost £4.50 and can be purchased when you register.

Once you have purchased your T-Shirt you may collect it before the event from the Fundraising Office, 12-15 Bellegrove Parade, Welling, DA16 2RE. Collection will only take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 9am – 5pm. Alternatively, you can collect it on the day.We regret that we are not able to post T-Shirts due to the cost involved.

We’re thrilled to welcome back local estate agents John Payne and Acorn as our exclusive Mini Marathon sponsors. On the Mini Marathon day look out for their Selfie Station and grab some freebies from their stall!

Lovely John Payne and Acorn staff members will also be handing out water around the route, marshaling and generally cheering on the runners!

We would like to pay tribute to all the families who have supported the Mini Marathon throughout the last four years.
