Hi Melissa

I'd also check out the Lakeland Trails series as a really well-organised, atmospheric introduction to fell running.  Each race day hosts a 10k, a longer race (typically approx 18k) and the Challenge version - the same as the race but for non-competitive runners.  Really friendly and enthusiastic crowd and fabulous settings.  Even if the run feels like a killer, you'll spend some quality time in amazing surroundings.  Check out www.lakelandtrails.org

Hi Mellisa, if you haven't already check out some of the Youtube videos and they will give you a flavour of what its like, also there are race categories dependant on toughness and orienteering skills, i.e. SC, etc.

Go for it! I personally find running off road and in the hills much more interesting than pounding the pavements. A pair of offroad shoes are useful and helps to give you good grip on rougher/muddier/steeper terrain, other than that if you are planning on routes that go up quite high, its good to carry waterproofs and maybe an extra layer in case the weather turns on you.

A useful guide can be found here...

Have fun!

Hey all

I'm coming up to doing my 2nd marathon in a few weeks after starting running about 15 months and I was starting to look at some new challenges and was thinking about taking up fell running. I was wondering if any one had any advice on starting up and what kinda equiptment I'm gonna need. I thought summer would be a good time to start off due to better weather and have my first off road race in July so any advice would be much appreciated

Mel :)
