Our Top 10 Runs With Historic Buildings

These are our top 10 runs with historic buildings from around the UK. Each one has been selected from the Good Run Guide database and has a detailed route guide with a custom map and directions.

Chatsworth Views - 6.39 miles

Wonderful views over Chatsworth House and the surrounding parkland are the most memorable feature of this run. The route takes you through Chatsworth Parkland and returns via the attractive and interesting village of Edensor.

The Thames at Hampton Court - 4.80 miles

This predominately flat run explores much of the 445 hectares of Bushy Park where there are abundant plants and wildlife including red and fallow deer. It then follows the Thames Path back up to pass by the historic Hampton Court Palace.

Blenheim Park - 3.50 miles

This is an easy run if you only have time for a short run whilst visiting the picturesque Woodstock village or magnificent Blenheim Palace. The run follows the Oxfordshire way and takes you onto a tarmac path gently desending through Blenheim park with the Palace in the distance.

Castle Howard Circumnavigation - 4.98 miles

A nice and easy to follow route around the Castle Howard Estate where you can see views of the House and many of the Garden features and follies without paying, albeit at a distance!

Hadrians Wall at Steel Rigg - 4.81 miles

A route with beautiful views and bags of historical interest. The path along Hadrian's Wall has the views but also has the tough going, with some tricky and stony climbs and descents. The return path is across easier terrain and with aview of the fortification/border control.

Petworth Park - 4.27 miles

A lovely scenic run around beautiful Petworth Park. There are numerous good trails all around the park so this is just a suggestion - which takes in all the major features including Petworth House itself as well as the Upper and Lower Ponds.

Lyme Park Loop - 4.10 miles

A hilly but rewarding route centred on Lyme Park. The run features a long and tough climb across the estate, through woods, over moorland and down a quiet lane. It then crosses farmland and returns back into the estate for a visit to The 'Cage' and Darcy's House.

Welshpool Canal and Castle - 5.34 miles

A run taking in Powis Castle and grounds, the Montgomery Canal and Welshpool itself. Through Powis Castle Estate grounds the surface is smooth tarmac, the towpath is mostly gravel and grass and it is cross country across the fields.

Windsor Castle and River - 6.25 miles

This is a largely flat run through historic Windsor. The run starts with stretches along the river Thames. It then skirts The Crown Estate, follows the Long Walk with views of the Castle and finishes via the High Street and back to the River.

Ashdown House Circuit - 6.89 miles

An easy to follow route on good trails. From the ridgeway we drop down to loop around the impressive Ashdown House viewing it from various directions. Then a somewhat testing and long but not steep climb all the way back up to the ridgeway path.
