OVERVIEW A mostly fast route on trails and tarmac across open farmland. Easy to follow and some good fast running and great views especially from the Ridgeway Path. The path can be a little slippery and is slightly overgrown as you ascend towards the ridgeway itself. The Ridgeway Path, follows the chalk hills from Avebury in Wiltshire to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire. It has been described as Britain's oldest road, and represents part of a route in use since Neolithic times from the south coast near Lyme Regis to the Wash. The National Trail was opened in 1973. |
