OVERVIEW This is less of a run, but more of an excuse to get in some lovely views of the very picturesque Leeds Castle which is romantically situated on its own (two) islands on a lake. The route uses public footpaths and a short stretch of country lane to pass near the castle twice. Leeds Castle was built in 1119 by Robert De Crevecoeur to replace the earlier Saxon manor of Eslede. Notably Henry VIII transformed the castle for his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. The castle grounds have an aviary, a maze, a grotto, a golf course and a museum of dog collars. |
