OVERVIEW

This run explores much of Windsor Great park, a Royal Park of approx 14000 acres. You will pass by the man-made but impressive Virginia Water Lake, follow round to join the Long Walk with views of Windsor Castle, run up to the Copper Horse and return to pass the Obelisk and the British Columbian Totem Pole, finally returning via the Lake.

Windsor Great Park extends to approx. 14000 acres and is a Royal Park managed by the Crown Commissioners. Virginia Water Lake was dammed and flooded in 1753 and was the largest man-made lake in the British Isles until the creation of the reservoirs. The Copper Horse, a statue of George III on horseback, was erected on Snow Hill by his son, George IV and created by Sir Richard
Westmacott in the years 1824-1830. The
100 foot high Totem Pole was a gift from the
people of Canada to HM The Queen in 1958.
