Race Guide
Orienteering @Wendover Woods
Date / Time
Length
3.11 miles (5.0 km)
Description
An orienteering race is a staggered start trail run with a difference - there is no set route! For an added mental challenge, you must navigate your way around the course, between each checkpoint marked on a map. We use electronic chip timing, and we'll lend you a chip to register at each checkpoint around the woods. Come along any time between 10am and midday and we'll get you started if you've not been orienteering before. Staggered starts (1min) are used and it's just £6 entry on the day for an introductory course.
The courses will take you along paths and off-path, so trainers or trail running shoes are ideal. Wendover Woods is also hilly with some steep slopes and could be quite muddy! A compass may be handy to bring, but we can always lend you one if needed.
Various courses for runners, and also families and children, up to about 8k (however this is a straight line distance measured between the control points and you'll run further!). There will be three introductory courses (colour coded White, Yellow and Orange). Orange is a good course for runners new to orienteering - it will be about a 5k run, but not too difficult navigation-wise, so you won't get lost! It's a good opportunity to get used to an orienteering map! Email us for more info or check out our website/Facebook page: www.tvoc.org.uk or www.facebook.com/tvoclub
This is a large regional event, with several hundred runners expected - please do not park in the Forestry Commission car park in the woods, as we have a dedicated parking field on the edge of the woods, with traders and refreshments too. Basically, carry on driving (south) past the main entrance to Wendover Woods and you'll see the entrance on your right (there will be marshalls there). What3Words: segregate.bottom.mulled. Please have a look at the more detailed flyer on our website too. We'll also publish a pdf of "final details" a week or two before the event - which will also be on our website.
You can predict your finish time for this race based on a recent race you've run. Enter the details below - select a similar type of race (hilliness and terrain) for the best prediction.
