2014 CITY OF SALFORD 10K RUN

Take part in the 2014 City of Salford 10k.  This is one of the most popular 10k runs in the North of England, with nearly 3,500 entrants in 2013.  The nice dry, crisp weather, coupled with the new fast start made for some good PBs.

The Salford 10k route starts on the Piazza between The Lowry Theatre and The Lowry Outlet Mall, and heads on closed roads westwards along Broadway, along a wide carriageway, allowing runners to get a fast start.  The route then turns back into MediaCityUK, past the BBC North offices and across the bridge into Trafford Park.  After a tour of Trafford Park, the route comes back across Millennium Bridge onto the Salford side, and a loop along the side of the Quays to the Watersports centre, before finishing in front of all the cheering friends, family and supporters in the Piazza.

In 2013, the Salford 10k saw a new mens champion, TesfayeDebele from Bradford Airedale in a fantastic time of 30:09.  Last year's winner Mohamed Abu-Reseq of Altrincham was second, with Salford's Stuart Robinson third.  The ladies 10k was won by Rachel Burns of Liverpool Harriers in a great time of 35:58, with Kirsty Longley of Liverpool Pembroke in second and Gwen Kinsey of Stroud + District in third.

The 2014 race will start at 10:15am and we have been promised by Metrolink that the trams will be stopped on schedule to allow the race to get away on time and in safety.

Changes to the 2014 City of Salford 10k

For 2014, we are making a number of improvements to the Salford 10k as it continues to grow and be more popular.

  • A Metrolink presence in the Race HQ to ensure the tram line is suspended to allow the runners to cross the track in safety.
  • The City of Salford 5k will currently not take place due to the complexities of the whole event growing.
  • Medal and a commemorative t-shirt given to all finshers.
  • Speedier collection process for the medal and t-shirt.
  • More music at the event.

This is in addition to many of the other existing elements of the event including:

  • Chip timing.
  • Web results.
  • Water station on route plus at the finish - in the event of a very warm day, additional water will be available.
  • Massages, as provided by local physios.
  • Event photography service.
  • Route markers every 1km.
  • There is car parking (payable) available at The Lowry Outlet Mall and at the MediaCityUK car park nearby.
