The Half Marathon route is a stunning mix of coast, city and parks. Starting in the heart of the city at Hoglands Park, this fairly flat route has a unique ascent!
Towering over the River Itchen since 1977 is the Itchen Bridge, spanning 870 yards (800 m), is 92 feet (28 m) at its highest point and weighs 62,000 tons.
As a real treat for the event the bridge will be closed and both the 10k and Half marathon take you over and back across the bridge between miles 4-5.
At the top of the bridge almost 100ft up, you get a stunning view of the entire city, right up the river, across the commercial centre and then out to see towards the Isle of Wight.
After the come down from the bridge there are still many more delights including running past the premier league Saints stadium, along the waters edge in Bitterne Park and through the huge expanse of the common before a stunning finish in front of the Guildhall in the city centre.
This event is an ideal choice for first time Half marathon runners and an exciting new course for seasoned pro’s a like. We are expecting approx 5,000 runners for this debut event.
A spectator friendly route, with lots of activities, coffee houses and restaurants to explore make it a weekend away with the whole family.
