The standing stone circle at Callanish, on the West coast of the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, was built around 3,000BC (before the Egyptian pyramids).
This stunning location provides a unique backdrop to a one-off full marathon organised by Stornoway Running & Athletics Club.
This is a truly Hebridean experience not to be missed! 26.2 miles through stunning scenery and important historic sites. Sample a warm Hebridean welcome and hospitality.
This is a rare opportunity in Homecoming Year to enjoy the Outer Hebrides in style.
The race will start near the Stones in the village of Breasclete and finish at the Stones themselves. The route skirts the ancient Callanish Stones site, passes other associated stone circles before heading onwards to the magical blackhouse village of Gearrannan, which nestles picturesquely on the shore of the Atlantic. Runners then will head back towards the finish passing the Carloway Broch on the way.
The race will have two starts, an early one and a later one thus allowing slower runners and walkers the opportunity to participate in this very special event.
We are now open for entries so log on to www.srac.org.uk
