The Lords Of the Isles Challenge
Date / Time
Length
26.20 miles (42.2 km)
Description
Have you ever wanted to step out of the box and do something crazy? You know, cross something off that bucket list and feel good about it? Well, here’s your chance. Compete in the first annual Lords of the Isles Challenge, a dual competition that involves playing a golf tournament and running (or walking) 26.2 miles (a marathon) on one of Scotland’s most picturesque, remote, and mysterious islands – Islay. I know it sounds fairly ridiculous – trying to imagine a golfer running a marathon and a marathoner playing in a golf tournament. But such stuff is what crazy things are all about, eh? The good news is that the entire entry fee for this dual competition goes towards a worthy cause – the young children of Islay, principally to the high school students who are planning a 2015 goodwill trip to a third-world developing country. There's also an opportunity to contribute to the Islay Youth Pipers and to the island's Gaelic College, which is committed to preserving the culture, language, and traditions of these hardy islanders.
