No ordinary run! Orienteering @ Brill Common

Date / Time
Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
Length 3.11 miles (5.0 km)
Description
Try a run with a difference - ideal for training or for something new and challenging! This event is organised by Thames Valley Orienteering Club. Brill Common is fantastic area for orienteering - the area around the windmill is undulating and contains many grassy knolls and depressionsm with lots of contour detail. A real test for running while navigating! There will be several courses for runners and orienteers. The courses will take you along paths and off-path, around the undulating and complex common, so trainers or trail running shoes are ideal. A compass may be handy to bring, although not essential, as we can lend you one. You’ll receive a special (very detailed) orienteering map of your chosen course, showing a series of controls for you to visit in order. At each point on the common you'll find a marker flag and the challenge is to visit each control, choosing your route between each one using the map - as fast as you can! You'll need to register each one with a small electronic timing chip, which we'll lend you (as used in adventure racing - EMIT electronic timing for those in the know!). Cost is just £5 for adults (£2 for under 21s and students). Come along any time between 10am and 11.30am and we'll get you started. Please see our website or email us for more info.
