This page explains further how our Forum works and provides some Guidelines for using it.


Forum Topic Guide

The Forum Topic Guide provides a roundup of what's being discussed in the Forum, showing the top Topics under various settings. It works very much like an Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) found on many TV systems. You can either:

  • select a Category to see all the Topics being discussed in that Category;

  • select individual Topics shown on the Forum Topic Guide to view them, or

  • select alternative 'Show Me' Settings to change the choice of Topics shown

You can also search for Topics or Start new Topics from this page.. The diagram below highlights the main features of the Topic Guide.

New Topics Any Topic that you haven't looked at will be flagged with this icon Favourite Topic
New Posts Any Topic that you looked at within the last month that has has had new Posts added to it since you last looked at it will be flagged with this icon Favourite Topic

The Forum Topic Guide shows the top Topics across every Category but if you simply want to browse through the Topics in a standard list form just click this button or click one of the Category buttons (e.g. HEALTH) :

Searching for Topics

Enter the phrase or keywords iinto the search box above the Forum Topic Guide to search for Topics containing these words. For a more advanced search, including to search for Posts containing specific words, click on Advanced Search.

Setting Your Forum Nickname

Members can choose a personal Forum Nickname that is shown when they Post to a Topic. If you haven't provided a Forum Nickname we will shown the name you provided when you first registered.

Running Club Members cannot set a personal Nickname - the name of the Club will be shown.

Member Profiles

You can provide a bit more information about yourself by setting up a Member Profile. Member Profiles can only be viewed by Full Members of Good Run Guide. You can choose which information you would like to include in your Member Profile and can turn it off at any time.

Where a Member has set up a Member Profille, a symbol like this will be displayed next to their name on their Posts Member Profile. Click on the symbol to view the Member Profile .

Contacting Other Members

Once you have set up a Member Profile, you can also choose to accept contacts from other Good Run Guide Members (Full Members only). We do not give out your email address at any point; we will forward on messages using a forwarding email account of or own.

If a Member is accepting contacts from other Members, a Contact me button will be shown on their Member Profile.

Who can view the Forum? Anyone can view the Forum. Any Posts you make on the Forum will become public and available to anyone with an internet connection so please post carefully.
Who can Post to the Forum? Any Good Run Guide Member can start new Topics and Post to existing Topics. This includes Running Club Members.
Editing Posts You can edit any of your own Posts up to 30 minutes after it was posted by clicking on the Edit link on the top right of the Post when viewing it .
Links to Other Sites You can include links to other websites in your Posts provided you are a Full Member.
Favourite Topics

Any Member can add Topics to their Favourites by clicking on the button labeled Add to Favourites when viewing the Topic . Your Favourite Topics are marked with this symbol Favourite Topic except on the Forum Topic Guide. Select Show Me My Favourite Topics from the drop-down list above the Forum Topic Guide to see your favourite Topics.

To remove a Topic from your Favourites, view the Topic and click on Remove from Favorites button.

Starting New Topics Any Member can start a new Topic. Please do a search first though to make sure that someone else hasn't already started the same Topic. We ask that you provide a Title and short Description for each new Topic.
Linking Topics to Routes, Races or Parks When you start a new Topic you will have the option of linking the Topic to content elsewhere on Good Run Guide. When you do this we will include a link on the relevant page to your Topic. To do this you must have viewed the relevant content within the last 12 months.
Rating a Topic

When you view a Topic you can give it a rating by clicking on the YOUR RATING stars in the top right corner of the page. Topics with an average rating of at least 3 stars are flagged on the Forum Topic Guide.

Please try to rate Topics as this will help encourage good quality discussions in the Forum.

NOTE: You cannot rate your own Topic!

Reporting Offensive Posts

If you find a Post offsenive then please report it by clicking on this symbol Report a Post as Offensive shown on the top right of the Post. Any Posts that have been reported already are shown with this symbol This Post has been reported as causing offense..

We will investiage all reported Posts and may remove them from the Forum. In addition, individuals may be barred from posting to the Forum if they persist in making offensive Posts.

Forum Guidelines

We want the Good Run Guide Forum to be a friendly, social place where runners of all standards can chat openly and share their knowledge, experience and opinions about anything connected with running, without being intimidated or offended in any way. So, please be considerate when posting to the Forum.

Please try to follow these guidelines:

  • Do not Post anything illegal or anything that encourages illegal activity
  • No profanity or obscene language
  • No racial, ethnic, gender based insults or any other personal discriminations or insults
  • No commercial or personal classified advertising (Promotion of races is permitted)
  • Start Topics in the most relevant Category
  • Do not link Topics to Good Run Guide content where it is not relevant to do so
  • Do not impersonate another person or Post on their behalf
  • Do not Post under more than one Membership Account
  • Do not include Links in Posts to inappropriate content on other websites
  • Do not cross Post in multiple Topics or start duplicate Topics
  • Show respect for everyone's opinion and level of experience
  • Choose meaningful titles for new Topics
  • Try to keep 'On Topic'
  • Try to keep your Posts short
  • Try to 'add value' - avoid "Me to" type Posts
  • Do not make irrelevant Posts to boost a Topic's position
  • Do not Post your personal contact details
  • Do not use the Forum to contact Good Run Guide if you want a response as we may not read your Post
  • Please contact us using the Contact Us page if you have any concerns or questions

 

We reserve the right to bar Members from posting to the Forum for flagrant perisistent breaches of these guidelines.
